François Morelli – 2012

François Morelli is an award-winning Montreal-based multidisciplinary artist who has exhibited his works in galleries and museums around the world. In 2010, he approached Doering Editions on the recommendation of a colleague to discuss turning his Belt Head drawings into editioned prints. François prepared four large images on linoleum, approximately five feet by three feet each, which Maria then carved meticulously, ensuring to maintain the very fine details and the sense of brush work that the original drawing contained. After hundreds of hours of carving over two years, two weeks were set aside in July 2012 to print editions of each of the four blocks. We converted François’ Montréal studio space into a print studio, and pulled editions of all four blocks by hand using a wooden spoon.

Maria published a blog at the time, including dozens of photos, which can be accessed here.
